This month we designed a super cute Spring Wooden Bunny Craft Kit for Easter. I’m going to walk you through each step to make this craft from the bare bones of the craft kit, to a beautiful piece of decor that you can use each year.

Spring Wooden Bunny Craft Kit

Supplies needed:

Step 1

Paint the three large 3″ x 14″ pieces of wood and the 3 Craft Sticks (that come in the Craft Kit) with the Antique Craft Wax. This is give each piece a nice dark stained look. Make sure that the Craft Wax is completely dry before moving on to the next step. You could also use stain or watered down brown paint to get the same look as the antique wax gives the wood.

This is what the wood should look like after it is stained.

Step 2

Once all the wood is dry lay the pieces out like a fence, The picture below shows how I laid mine out. One piece of wood has a slanted edge and I put that on the left side. I just love the little bit of character it gives this craft.

Once I had all of the pieces laid out, I discovered that I needed to trim the edges of the craft sticks. I grabbed a pen and drew a line where they needed to be cut. You can cut the craft sticks very easily with scissors. It is much easier to trim the sticks before they are glued down.

It’s now time to glue it all together. Apply hot glue to the craft sticks and secure them down across the larger pieces of wood. Once all 3 Craft Sticks are glued down and dry, flip the wood over to see the finished look. I absolutely love how it turns out. It’s the perfect background for this Spring Wooden Bunny DIY Craft Kit.

After I had it all put together I decided I wanted to sand the edges of the 3 large wooden pieces. I took a nail file and sanded around each piece. This step is completely optional. If you like this look I would sand around each piece before you glue it together. It will make it so much easier to sand.

Step 3

Now its time to pull out the wooden bunny and piece of white wallpaper. The first thing you do is apply a nice even layer of mod podge all over the top of the bunny. Then take the wallpaper and glue it down into place over the bunny. I made sure I centered the pattern of the wallpaper before I secured it in to place. The wallpaper gives the bunny such a fun texture.

After the glue was completely dry, I took my scissors and cut out the wallpaper around the bunny shape. There were a few tight spots so I took an exacto knife and trimmed the tight corners. To give the bunny completely clean edges, I took a nail file and sanded around the edges. I love how it turned out.

Step 4

After the bunny is covered in the wallpaper, its time to paint the Bunny. I painted mine white, but you can paint the bunny any color you would like. The wallpaper is paintable so it looks really nice when the paint has dried.

I really wanted the texture of the wallpaper to show up so I decided to add some antique wax over the top of the bunny. I took my chip brush and and used the dry brush paint technique over the entire bunny. It really turns out so cute. If you have read very many of my Blogs you know I love the antiqued look. You do not have to antique your bunny if it’s not a look you like. I hope you each will make this kit your own and paint it how you like.

To embellish the bunny I made a simple bow out of raffia and glued it at the neck of the bunny. I also decided after I took all of the photos, to glue an Antique button to the center of the bow. The raffia and bunny are included in the craft kit. I’m so in Love with this bunny, I hope you love it to.

Step 5

Now it is time to glue your darling bunny to the little wooden fence background piece you made. I centered the bunny and figured out where I wanted to place it, before I applied the hot glue to the back and secured it in to down. It is so stinking cute!!! I really love this Craft Kit.

Step 6

The very last step is to take the piece of wire, I provided in the kit, and make the hanger. I just simply threaded the wire through the drilled holes and twisted the wire ends around the wire at the top of each side. I hope that makes sense. You can see the picture below if that was confusing!

This Spring Wooden Bunny DIY Craft Kit was so much fun for me to create. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! The different textures are probably my favorite part about this craft kit.
