Grandma Larsen’s Strawberry Banana Jello

Jello salads have always held a special place in our hearts, and there’s something genuinely magical about recipes passed down through generations. In this blog post, I’m excited to share a cherished family recipe: Grandma Larsen’s Strawberry Banana Jello. With its delightful blend of fruity flavors and creamy texture, this jello salad is bound to bring back childhood memories and create new ones for the children in your life. So, let’s dive into the recipe and create a treat that will make everyone’s taste buds sing!

Ingredients:

  • 1 (3 oz) package of strawberry jello
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 bananas
  • 1/2 of a lemon
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 teaspoons sugar

Instructions:

Dissolve the Jello:

Start by boiling 1 cup of water. Add the boiling water and the package of strawberry jello to a mixing bowl. Stir well until the jello powder is completely dissolved. Next, add 1 cup of cold water to the mixture and continue stirring until well combined.

Prepare the Bananas:

Slice the bananas into bite-sized pieces in a small bowl. To prevent them from browning, squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the sliced bananas and gently toss them to ensure all the pieces are coated. This simple step adds a tangy freshness to the dish.

Incorporate the Bananas into the Jello:

Now, it’s time to add the prepared bananas to the jello mixture. Gently fold the banana slices into the jello until they are evenly distributed. This step adds a delightful fruity twist to the jello salad.

Refrigerate Until Set:

Carefully transfer the jello mixture with the bananas into a refrigerator-safe dish. Allow it to chill in the refrigerator until the jello is fully set. This typically takes a few hours, but you can leave it overnight for optimal results.

Whip the Cream:

Prepare the creamy topping while the jello is set. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream and sugar. Wash the cream with an electric mixer or a whisk until soft peaks form. The addition of sugar adds a touch of sweetness that complements the fruity flavors perfectly.

Add the Creamy Topping:

Remove the jello from the refrigerator once the jello has been set. Gently spread the whipped cream over the top of the jello, creating a luscious layer. This creamy addition adds a velvety texture and a delightful contrast to the fruity jello.

Serve and Enjoy:

You’re almost there! At this point, you have two options. You can immediately serve Grandma Larsen’s Strawberry Banana Jello or place it back in the refrigerator until it’s time. Regardless of your choice, this delightful jello salad will impress both young and old alike.

In Conclusion:

There’s something extraordinary about family recipes, and Grandma Larsen’s Strawberry Banana Jello is no exception. With its simplicity and nostalgic flavors, this jello salad is bound to become a favorite treat for generations to come. So, take some time to create memories in the kitchen and indulge in this sweet and fruity delight. This jello salad is perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a family gathering, a picnic, or just a regular day. Enjoy the endless possibilities of jello, and let your taste buds rejoice!
