Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 box (15.25oz) Devil's Food cake mix
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp natural unsweetened cocoa

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). This will ensure that your cupcakes bake evenly and to perfection.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, devil's food cake mix, granulated sugar, flour, and cocoa powder. Using an electric mixer, beat the ingredients together until they are well combined. This usually takes around 2-3 minutes. You'll notice that the mixture will become thick and luscious, promising a moist and decadent final product.
  • Prepare your muffin pan by lining it with cupcake liners. This will make it easier to remove the cupcakes once they are baked. Fill each liner about 2/3 to 3/4 full with the cupcake batter. This allows room for the cupcakes to rise beautifully in the oven.
  • Slide the pan into the preheated oven and let the cupcakes bake for approximately 18-21 minutes. To check if they are done, insert a toothpick into the center of one of the cupcakes. If it comes out clean or with a few crumbs clinging to it, your cupcakes are ready to be taken out of the oven. Remember not to overbake them, as this can lead to dry cupcakes.
  • Once the cupcakes are done, remove them from the oven and place them on a wire rack to cool completely. It's important to resist the temptation to frost them right away, as the heat can cause the frosting to melt and slide off. Patience is key here!
