Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup chopped dates
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 1 ½ cups boiling water
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped nuts walnuts work well

  • In a small pan, bring water to a boil.
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the chopped dates, raisins, and baking soda.
  • Pour the boiling water over the mixture and set it aside to cool.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Spray a 9x13-inch cake pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy in a mixing bowl.
  • Beat in the eggs and vanilla, ensuring they are well incorporated.
  • Whisk together the flour, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl.
  • Add the dry ingredient mixture to the creamed butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Mix until well combined, creating a smooth batter.
  • Gently fold the cooled date and raisin mixture into the batter until evenly distributed.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it out evenly.
  • Combine the brown sugar, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts in a bowl.
