For the Crust:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup melted butter
- 1 large egg at room temperature
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
For the Topping:
- 1 package (8 oz.) of cream cheese softened
- 2 large eggs at room temperature and beaten
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Making the Crust
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish.
Combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix together the melted butter, room-temperature egg, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl until well combined.
Next, pour the butter mixture into the flour mixture and stir until the dough comes together. Press the dough onto the bottom of the greased baking dish, ensuring an even and flat layer.
Preparing the Cream Cheese Topping
Assembling and Baking
Pour the cream cheese topping over the crust layer in the baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Bake the dessert in the oven for 40-45 minutes or until the center is almost set and the edges turn a delightful golden brown.
Cooling and Garnishing
Once the baking is complete, remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for about an hour on a wire rack. This cooling period helps to set the cream cheese topping and enhances the flavors.
For extra sweetness, you can sprinkle additional confectioners' sugar over the cooled dessert just before serving.
