I am so excited to share this Cardboard and Popsicle Stick DIY with you. Popsicle sticks and cardboard are probably two of the most versatile crafting materials in the world. I mean, these simple supplies can be used to make everything from ornaments to picture frames. They can be transformed into stunning Home Decor for your HOME. My Sisters always tease me, that I can make something out of nothing. But I like to think that you can make Beautiful Home Decor out of anything!!! Â
So, just in case you ever find yourself with an afternoon to fill, grab some cardboard and popsicle sticks (because really, this seems to be two craft supplies that we all have an abundance of) and get Crafting. Here are a few fun and creative ways to use them! You can use these ideas for any Event or Holiday. Another fun thing about this DIY is that you can make the shapes as big or small as you want. The possibilities are endless!!!!
Cardboard and Popsicle Stick DIY Craft
Supplies Needed:
- Cardboard (I cut up old Amazon boxes to use.)
- Popsicle Sticks
- Heart and Shamrock Patterns
- Red Paint
- Green Paint
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Ribbon and Fabric (to embellish with)
- Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
- Pen
Step 1
The first thing you need to do is print off, and cut out, any patterns you would like to use. In this post I used a heart and a shamrock, but the possibilities are endless. You can cut out any shape you want. Get creative and find shapes that will go with your Home Decor or the Holiday you are decorating for.
Step 2
Once you have your patterns, trace the shapes onto your cardboard. Then take your scissors and cut them out.
Step 3
Now I am going to show you 2 different techniques one on the Shamrock and the other on the Heart. They both turn out so cute and are simple to do. With the Shamrock shape I am going to pull off the top layer of cardboard, to reveal the corrugated cardboard piece that is in the middle. I like to wet the top of the cardboard before peeling it. It makes this process a lot easier.
Look how cute it turns out.
With the Heart I am going to glue popsicle sticks to the top of the shape. I simply use my glue gun to do this. You glue the popsicle sticks close together. It gives the Heart a shiplap look. This is one of my favorite techniques. The picture below shows the back of the cardboard with the sticks glued on top.
You can cut the popsicle sticks easily with your scissors. Follow the shape of the heart as you cut and you will end up with this adorable wooden heart.
Step 4
Next simply paint your shapes. I painted the Shamrock green and the Heart red. After the paint was dry I decided to antique them a little. I don’t have a picture of this, but I took my Wax Paint in Antique and lightly brushed over the top of each shape.
Step 5
The last step is to embellish the shapes and decide how you want to use them. You can use any fabric, ribbon or buttons to make your craft complete. I decided to make the Shamrock into a little pick to add into any floral arrangement. With the heart I decided to turn it into into a little hanging ornament. I thought it would look so cute hanging up for Valentines Day.
Just look how cute these simple Cardboard and Popsicle Stick Crafts look in my home. Like I said the possibilities are endless.
