Here is what you need to make Rice Crispy Treats:

 

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 24 ounces miniature marshmallows
  • 12 to 13 cups crispy rice cereal

 

 

Instructions

Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray, set it aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over low heat.

Add the marshmallows and stir until they are halfway melted. Remove from heat and continue stirring until marshmallows are melted.

Add the crispy rice cereal and stir until it is well coated.

Using buttered hands, evenly press the mixture into the cookie sheet.

Allow the mixture to cool. Then cut it into squares. The treats are best if served the same day.

Tips:

To make the rice crispy treats even more festive, add food coloring to the marshmallow mixture before adding the cereal.

For an extra indulgent treat, add chocolate chips or peanut butter to the mixture.

If you want to make the treats ahead of time, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

 

Variations:

  1. Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats: Add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the cereal.
  2. Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats: Add 1/2 cup of peanut butter to the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the cereal.
  3. Fruity Rice Krispies Treats: Substitute Fruit Loops or another fruity cereal for the crispy rice cereal.
  4. S’mores Rice Krispies Treats: Add mini marshmallows and crushed graham crackers to the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the cereal.
