Sweetheart Cookies

Beautiful heart-shaped sweetheart cookies with an extra sparkle make for a delicious treat! These Sweetheart Cookies come out of the oven already decorated—no need to make a batch of frosting. I added the sprinkles before I baked the cookies. Prep Time: 6 hours 30 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 6 hours 40 minutes

Instructions

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup sugar sprinkles

    In a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar on high until creamy.sweetheartcookies4
    Add eggs and lemon extract and beat until smooth.sweetheartcookies5
  • In a separate bowl sift flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda.

    Then add to the mixing bowl, and beat on low until combined.

    Wrap cookie dough in cling wrap and place in the fridge for at least 6 hours, I have found that overnight is the best.sweetheartcookies11
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Then on a floured surface roll cookie dough out to 1/4 inch thick.sweetheartcookies12
    Cut out hearts with a cookie cutter.sweetheartcookies13
    Place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Then add sprinkles.

    Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Then cool on a cookie rack. Serve and enjoy!

    Tip: Use this recipe for any Holiday. It is always a crowd-pleaser.
