I love St. Patrick’s Day!!!! I am Irish and proud of it. Join me here to see how I made this Darling Shamrock. I bought the Shamrock from Dollar Tree so it is also very Budget Friendly. The transformation is amazing and I hope you like it.
The Supplies you need are:
-
Wooden Shamrock (From Dollar Tree)
-
Green Paint (mine was Forest Green from Ceramcoat)
-
Tan Ribbon
-
1 bag of Split Peas
-
Hot Glue Gun
-
Mod Podge
-
Paintbrush, Scissors, Sand Paper
-
Heat Gun (optional)
The first thing I did was remove the jute string hanger from the shamrock. Then I took my Green Paint and painted the entire front of the Shamrock. I used my Heat Gun to dry the paint quickly. (If you don’t have a heat gun you can just wait for it to dry.
Once it was completely dry, I took the sandpaper and sanded around the edges of the Shamrock. (Just to give it a little character.)
Next I took my hot glue gun and started to glue down the split peas. I just covered a little bit of the heart shaped wood with hot glue, then pushed the split peas down into the glue. This part takes time and patience, but the end result is super cute!! The split peas add such FUN and CUTE Texture to this craft.
After all of the split peas are glued down, I took Mod Podge and covered the entire top of the Split peas. I did this to seal them in and to make sure none of the split peas were able to come off. The Mod Podge goes on white, but it will dry clear. It takes quite a while for the Mod Podge to dry completely.
I then took a piece of Tan Wired Ribbon and made a simple bow. I hot glued the bow to the top of the Shamrock Stem. It adds the perfect final touch to the Shamrock.
The last thing I did was put the jute string hanger back in place, so the Shamrock was ready to be hung up.
